UK Climate Change Act comes into force, includes adaptation provisions
The UK Climate Change Act 2008 became law on 26 November, committing the UK to cutting greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% by 2050. Significantly, the Act also creates a framework for building the UK’s ability to adapt to climate change.

The Maldivian new President, Mohamed Nasheed, announced its long-term climate change adaptation strategy: the creation of a “sovereign wealth investment fund” to buy land in foreign countries in case climate change renders the Maldives inhabitable.

Acclimatise is a key contributor to the landmark global G8 climate change ‘Addressing the Challenge’ publication released in March 2008.
