| Project: | The Isle of Man Climate Change Scoping Study |
| Year: | 2006 |
Scope:
The Isle of Man’s Department of Local Government commissioned Acclimatise to identify the potential impacts of climate change for the Island. One of the key stages in this work was the development of specific climate scenarios for the Isle of Man for the 2020s, 2050s and the 2080s – working with leading climatologists from the University of Ireland.
The study is part of the framework of regional studies supported by the UK Climate Impacts Programme (UKCIP), and made widespread use of the tools and techniques developed by UKCIP, including:
- UKCIP02 climate scenarios
- Socio-economic scenarios
- Risk, uncertainty and decision-making framework
- Costing the impacts of climate change
The study has helped the Isle of Man Government, representative organisations and individual businesses to identify their priorities for managing climate risks, and provides a framework for further investigations and future decision-making for the island.
The approach taken by the study is innovative and departs from the standard methodologies used by the other regional studies. In so doing we provided the Isle of Man with a clear agenda for risk assessment and management.
